
The Golden Age Club is always looking for volunteers to help out with our various activities and special events. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to volunteer your time, please take a look at some of our volunteer opportunities. Front Reception
When: This position is from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm or 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and runs Monday through Friday.
Duties include: Greeting people upon entering the club, calling members on their birthdays, having members and guests sign the sign in book, and directing people to different areas of the club.
Lunch with Friends
When: This event takes place on the second Wednesday of each month. Volunteers would be required to be at the event from 9:00 am or 10:30 am until 1:30pm (depending on the volunteer position).
Duties include: Volunteers are needed to set up for the lunch, take cash payment for the event, serve tea and coffee and meals to participants.
DFC Friday Afternoon Bingo
When: Bingo is played every Friday afternoon. Volunteers would be required from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm. If you are interested in being trained to be a Bingo Caller, call us at (403) 262-6342.
Duties include: Volunteers positions are needed for verifiers, callers, cashier, special games sellers, and run the food concession.
5 Star Bingo
When: Approximately once a month (for about 6 hours) or one time only.
Duties include: Opportunities include verifiers, satellite and bonanza sellers, and controllers. Duties for each position will vary.
Special Events
When: Dates and times vary throughout the year.
Duties include: Volunteers are needed to help with special events and fundraisers. There are many different positions needed, each with different duties. Needed are host/hostesses, servers, set up/clean up, cash, ticket sellers, and decorators.
Entertainers
When: Dates and times vary throughout the year.
Duties include: All types of entertainers/bands, particularly piano and organ players are needed for special events, Outreach luncheon, and Adult Day program.
Nevada/Pull Ticket Sellers
When: Special Events, Bingos and in the Lounge.
Duties include: Volunteers are needed to sell Pull Tickets at special events, the Downtown Bistro, and Bingos. This volunteer opportunity requires a great deal of responsibility for selling and accounting for tickets.
Casino
When: Varies.
Duties include: The Golden Age Club hosts a fundraising casino at Casino Calgary. Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs such as: cashiers, chip runners, bankers, verifiers, and sorters. Responsibilities vary according to each job.
Board of Directors
When: Varies.
Duties include: An elected Board of Directors governs the Downtown Frienship Centre. Members are elected to the Board for a term of two years, allowing half of the Board to move each year. Responsibilities include chairing a committee, attending all Board meetings and promoting the Club's image in the community. These individuals must be a member of good standing for a minimum of one year.
Bistro & Lounge
When: The Bistro & Lounge are open from:
Tuesdays: 10:00am to 1:00pm
Wednesdays: 9:00am to 4:00pm
Thursdays: 9:00am to 4:00pm
Fridays: 9:00am to 4:00pm
Saturday, Sunday and Monday: Closed
Duties include: Volunteers are needed for a number of positions including server, dishwasher, bussing tables, set up/clean up for special events, and food preparation. Times and responsibilities vary according to each position.
Next to New Clothing
When: The Next To New Shop is open from Tuesday 9:00am to 12:00pm, Wednesday 9:00am to 1:00pm, Thursday 10:00am to 2:00pm, Friday 10:00am to 2:00pm, Monday Closed
Duties include: Volunteers are needed to work in the Clothing Shop, price items, tidy up and rotate stock.
Travel Office
When: The Travel Office is open from Tuesday to Friday 10:00 am to 3:30 pm..
Duties include: The Golden Age Club has a travel office that individuals can use to book outings or extended trips. Duties include calling people to confirm or cancel trips, taking money, giving receipts and providing information. Volunteers should have excellent telephone skills and be reliable.
